Moving Forward in 2018!

January 4, 2018

Many have said 2017 was a very difficult year for them. They lost someone they loved, struggled financially, and more.  One of the hardest things to do after suffering loss is to move forward.  Often, grief, dispondency, confusion and financial woes make one feel paralyzed and stuck. Seeing a way out is sometimes impossible without someone there to remind them who they are, and to be able to see a future for them when they lack the ability to imagine a fulfilling or restored future for themselves.

Many patients of The Mercy Ministries find themselves feeling stuck, unable to get themselves out of the situation they are in. Fortunately, we have not only the ability to help them physically improve, but as their blood pressure, diabetes and other fear inducing medial issues are addressed, the patient's mental ability to to dream about the future again often returns.

For these patients we offer Mercy University classes, open to not only our patients, but the community, as well.  These classes teach how to get your finances under control, set up an emergency fund, and covers things like how to open a checking account and build a healthy credit score, and it covers God's perspective on being good stewards of finances. For many patients, this is the first time in their lives they've ever heard that God has a plan for their future, and is quite possibly the first time they've ever had their own checking account!

Mercy University also offers a Work Life class which teaches how to build a resume, fill out job applications online, and how to be honest, respectful employees.  We also work with business partners in the community to offer job interview practice sessions and entry level jobs.  So far Mercy's Work Life program has a 90% success rate of people getting and keeping a job!

At Mercy, we're not only offering a safety net to those suffering, nor are we merely helping individuals move forward physically.  We are impacting entire families and the economy of our community by giving jobless, discouraged people the health, resources and the courage to be all God has called them to be!
