We're All Smiles!

February 15, 2018

The Mercy Ministries had its 1st Quarterly Programs Committee Meeting Wednesday, February 14, 2018.  There were many exciting things to celebrate, such as the 2017 fourth quarter results ... RESULTS THAT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT DONORS LIKE YOU!!!

There were many things to discuss, such as the end-of-year statistics showing Mercy Medical Clinic (MMC) conducted 2,827 patient visits in 2017!  However, what brought the most excitement to the meeting was the gratitude felt for finally having the Mercy Dental Clinic (MDC) now fully functioning under the same roof as MMC!

The Mercy Dental Clinic (MDC) partners with Southeastern Technical College's (STC') health sciences' dental training program by providing Mercy patients with affordable X-rays, scheduling services, and more.   Finding someone to provide X-rays for Mercy patients at an affordable price was a huge hurdle to cross when Mercy initially launched the effort to bring the dental clinic in-house.  Now, Mercy patients get to pay just $10 to $22 for their X-rays, enabling Mercy's Volunteer Dentists to work effectively and efficiently.

And, we partner with City Drugs of Vidalia so a Mercy patient can not only receive relief from

tooth pain on their first visit, but if they have a mouth infection, they are able to get antibiotics for the infection that same day at a co-pay of just $2 per bottle!  We recently had a patient who needed heart surgery, but the cardiologist wouldn't perform her surgery until her mouth infection was under control.  Bacause of Mercy, she was able to get relief from infection and pain, and get her much needed surgery!

Mercy wouldn't be as effective or efficient were it not for the hard work of Kim Young of STC, who handles the scheduling of Mercy patients for X-rays, and for the dedication of Jennifer Gramiak, STC's Dental Director/Instructor.

Gramiak, who will be volunteering at MDC first on Friday, February 16th, will be allowing her hygiene students to gain experience at MDC one day a week under the supervision of a Mercy volunteer dentist.

Speaking of Volunteer Dentists:  We're happy to announce the following dentists, all from Toombs County, have been either scheduled for MDC and/or have already donated their time and resources in some capacity.  We are so thankful!!
