The Mercy Ministries (TMM) had a wonderful celebration at the Grand Opening of the Mercy Dental Clinic (MDC) Thursday, April 19th! About forty-five guests showed up to commemorate a special day for the residents in and around Toombs County!
The event began with Dale Clark, TMM Board Chair, opening with a welcome and word of prayer, followed by an inspirational speech by Mercy's Executive Director, Carly Benton. Her speech covered "How We Got Here," "Why We're Here," "Who Made It Possible," and the dedication of MDC Exam Room #2 in honor of the late Ann Martin Mosley, the mother of Mercy's Volunteer Dental Director, Dr. Ronald O. Mosley, DMD of Vidalia.
Benton also went on to share where the ministry is headed as we look into the future of what's possible as Mercy dreams of expanding its services to those under-served potential patients in Georgia. Listen to her speech here.
Benton's words were music to the ears of those staff, volunteers and donors who have worked so hard to see this dream of having an in-house non-profit dental clinic at TMM. No one was more thrilled, however, than Mercy patient, Mr. Meeler, who shared his testimony of how his life has been changed by MDC. Listen to his speech here.
Benton also recognized the active volunteers of MDC, and shared how Mercy's partnership with Southeastern Technical College's dental hygiene program benefits our patients by providing them with low cost X-rays, while also giving the dental students experience with using x-ray equipment!
The volunteer dentists currently seeing patients at MDC are Dr. Hugh Jordan of Vidalia, Dr. Jenifer Barrett of Vidalia, Dr. Travis Garnto of Baxley, and Dr. Kacy Morris of Vidalia.
The other active volunteers of MDC include Janice Sammons, Hunter Byrd, Lisa Thornton, and Diane Lockley.
Following the ceremony, a benediction and blessing was led by Mercy University Director and Mercy Pastor, Clint Hutcheson, followed by a time of food and fellowship.
In addition to the wonderful buffet of heavy hors d'oeuvres provided by Dr. & Mrs. Mosley, guests were also given an opportunity to take a tour of the new dental operatories, and be educated by Mercy Dental Hygienist, Diane Cox, and Mercy Dental Coordinator, Jessica Thursby.
We would be amiss not to mention Dr. Mosley had agreed to do a matching donation of up to $5,000 to any area dentists or dental offices who wanted to DOUBLE THEIR IMPACT in the community by donate towards purchasing of new MDC supplies prior to the Grand Opening.
As of Thursday night, MDC had been given $1,200 by Dr. Jenifer Barrett of Vidalia, Dr. H.G. Hall of Swainsboro, and by special donors, Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Shurley --->>> giving MDC $2,400 towards the purchase of supplies after their amount was matched by Dr. Mosley!
The Mercy Ministries is so very thankful for you all for your continuous support, enabling us to bring relief and healing to so many patients who have been suffering for far too long!
