Mercy's Ice Cream Social - 2018

August 29, 2018

The Mercy Volunteer Appreciation Ice Cream Social  satisfied everyone who had a sweet tooth Wednesday, August 29th, and sent favor bags and prizes home with volunteers.  Guests were also treated to ScoopS Ice Cream in Lyons as part of Mercy's quarterly Thank You event line up ... especially disigned with Mercy Volunteers in mind!

Mercy Volunteer Coordinator, Jessica Thursby,

started the event off with a blessing, and Carly Benton, Mercy's Director, updated the volunteers on what Mercy has accomplished during the first three quarters of 2018, which wouldn't have been possible without the faithful service of it's volunteers!

Benton also had this to say:

Volunteers are like Ice Cream

They come in all flavors and colors

Some are more plain and some are more bold,

but you’re all sweet and refreshing to others.

And just like no meal is complete without dessert,

No organization is whole without volunteers.

And just as dessert leaves a lasting impression,

It is often, you, our volunteers, that leave the most lasting impression on our patients.

So, whether you are plain ole vanilla, rocky road or something nutty, we are thankful for the flavor and sweetness you add to The Mercy Ministries. And our patients are thankful too!

While playing games, volunteers and staff laughed together in an effort to win at BINGO and stacked Starburst candies on a spoon held in their mouth!  It was quite a feat for those who were able to stack up more than five or six candies on their spoon's tip!

Two winners of the Starburst Challenge tied for the win, so they received an ice cream gift basket and an eyebrow wax from Appearances Salon in Lyons.  Winners of BINGO were awarded  a tomato plant grower, a thermal coffee cup, and an inspirational book!

Thank you to all of the Mercy Volunteers

who make each day possible for our precious

Mercy Medical, Mercy Dental and Mercy University

patients and students!
