The Mercy Ministries (TMM) is a safety net for those living below the federal poverty level, and that's where our great appreciation for you comes in!
We tell people everywhere we go about how amazing the citizens of Toombs County are! Other clinics around the southeast get a significant amount of their donations from other resources, such as federal grants and huge corporations. However, TMM is mostly funded (approx. 70%) by the residents of Toombs County! That's a HUGE accomplishment in comparrison with clinics in larger cities like Atlanta who only get about 30% of their funding from individual and church donations!
"For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. Ephesians 1:15-16
If you have never known poverty or have escaped poverty, you have so much to be thankful for!
Did you know, regarding a family of four, if both parents in the home are working full-time minimum wage jobs and have two kids, they are considered poor? Now, imagine the struggle of a single mother or grandmother who are raising kids on their own while trying to work a minimum wage job!
Sure, Georgians have it a little easier than most of the country. The threshold for poverty for a family of four in America is to make less than $25,100/year. In Georgia, where the cost of living is slightly less, it's $23,117/year.
But, that doesn't change the fact that thousands in Toombs and surrounding counties are unable to afford health insurance, and do NOT qualify for any government assistance.
In the past, if one of these less-than-wealthy people got sick with a chronic illness, they had nowhere to turn. Now, they have a chance to be accepted as one of TMM's patients ... Now, they have YOU!
So, reward yourself with a piece of pumpkin pie this week, and hopefully lots of hugs, as well. You've earned it!
From our hearts to yours,
