Did you know that the CDC reports that smoking-related illness in the United States costs more than $300 billion each year, including nearly $170 billion for direct medical care for adults and more than $156 billion in lost productivity, including $5.6 billion in lost productivity due to secondhand smoke exposure. WOW!
That's why we take smoking and tobacco cessation seriously at The Mercy Ministries (TMM) and try to provide an environment where there is education, accountability, emotional and spiritual support, and celebration for our patients struggling to quit!
TMM is hosting it's monthly Smoking & Tobacco Cessation class for Mercy Medical Clinic patients that struggle with smoking. A requirement for those patients, the class is 3 sessions long and covers everything from the negative health and financial effects of smoking to the spiritual and emotional aspects of taking care of our bodies as God intends. Today's class inspired by a Mercy patient, Herbert, who happened to be in the Mercy lobby at class time, and volunteered to share his journey of smoking cessation. Herbert said when he had four cigarettes in his pocket when he had his stroke. He said it took something that serious to give them up, but is so glad now he did! He said it's all up to the individual finally being ready to make that change!
THEN ... as the Smoking Cessation class was going on with Herbert in another room ... another Mercy patient entered the lobby and rang the victory gong to announce that she had quit smoking after 42 years!
She, Joyce, excitedly shared with everyone that she is no longer short of breath and has a lot more money to help her daughter! Praise the Lord! And what PERFECT timing to inspire those who have begun their journey of smoking and tobacco cessation in the class! Around here, we call that a GOD-THING, but it wouldn't be possible without your continued prayers and financial support of TMM. SO, THANK YOU and may this story inspire you today and remind you that God's timing is always perfect!
Do you have a personal story related to smoking or tobacco cessation? Take 15 minutes and come share with one of our classes! We have different participants each month and testimonies of improved wellness from others are the best inspiration!
