From the Minor Leagues to Mercy

August 29, 2019

God gives us a promise, talent and potential, but sometimes the fast road to success takes a nose dive into a dark valley, leaving us directionless and lost.  Thankfully, God always has a plan on how to get us up out of that valley and back onto the mountaintop.  Last month, The Mercy Ministries had an opportunity to play a part in helping a Mercy patient gain higher ground, and your support help us get him there!

At 18, Frankie was on top of the world. As a minor league baseball player for the Cincinnati Reds with a promising future, Frankie was "living the dream," UNTIL he injured his knee. He came home to Toombs County for surgery, got depressed, started making poor lifestyle choices, got caught in family drama, etc. and never returned to baseball. Life spiraled out of control and so did his health.

Twenty years later, Frankie came to Mercy in search of help, ready to make lifestyle changes and chart a new course for his future. Since his time with us, he has lost over 110 lbs. and has had all of his teeth pulled that were causing neck pain and uncontrollable blood sugar levels. He also has been saving to get his own dentures, but there was one more barrier in his way: a tied tongue (ankyloglossia).

Since birth, Frankie has needed his tongue clipped, but it never seemed to be within his reach. UNTIL NOW. Thanks to one of Mercy's wonderful new volunteer dentists, Dr. Mark Oxley, Mr. Frankie got his tongue clipped last week! Immediately his slurred speech was gone; he was able to lick his lips for the first time ever; AND there is now room in his mouth for dentures when he can pay for them! (It's amazing how something so small can drastically change someone's life.)

YOU helped make this happen with your prayers and support. Praise the Lord! Keep partnering with us to be Jesus to people like Mr. Frankie in WORD and ACTION; we need you and so do they!
